Paula Badosa has revealed that she and fellow Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz may compete in a mixed doubles event together in the future.
Spanish tennis is experiencing an amazing period. The nation has produced two outstanding youngsters, Alcaraz and Badosa, who have risen in the ATP and WTA rankings this year.
Alcaraz currently sits 9th in the official ATP rankings, while Badosa rose to 2nd place in the recent update of the WTA standings. With the young duo on the rise, it's no secret that the next generation of Spanish tennis talent is aware of each other's ability - particularly on social media.
It was on social media where Badosa floated the idea of her and Alcaraz joining forces to play mixed doubles, which the 24-year-old suggested on her Instagram account.
However, Alcaraz has yet to respond, but it would be interesting to see how the up-and-coming duo would pair at the 2022 Roland Garros—although this may be unlikely with the event now so close.
But it's a prospect that could come to fruition in the future, with both players hitting strong form recently. Despite being aged just 19 years old, Alcaraz has been a revelation so far in 2022, winning three titles in Rio, Miami, and Barcelona last week.
Badosa has also performed strongly in the first half of 2022 to climb the WTA rankings. The Spanish player reached the semi-finals at Indian Wells and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix this season.
At the recent 2022 Madrid Open, Alcaraz, Badosa, Simona Halep, and Andy Murray played exhibition doubles on a small tennis court. After the event, Halep shared pictures from the event on her Instagram, showing the quarter posing together on court during the light-hearted match ahead of what's one of the most popular joint ATP and WTA 1000 tournaments.
