WATCH: Swiatek wins crucial point thanks to uncalled double bounce

Iga Swiatek converted a crucial break point in the first set of the 2022 Roland Garros semi-final against Jessica Pegula, thanks to a missed call by the umpires.

Since the Pole won her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2020 Roland Garros, she has always wanted to replicate that success, and this year, she's getting very close to that, but she also got help from the umpires, who failed to notice the ball bounced twice on her side.

It was in the quarter-final match against the 11th-seeded Pegula from the United States, who bested multiple good players on her way to the quarter-final of the French Open, a stage that she never got past in her career.

It was the first set of the match, and both players had already traded breaks in the opening two games of the set. The point in question happened at 3-3 in the first set with Swiatek up 40-15 on her opponent's serve.

Pegula played a fairly solid drop shot that Swiatek caught and put over the net for the winner and the game. The American was left a bit confused, looking around for a signal from the umpires, but nothing came.

However, since there's no video review available in tennis right now, Pegula could not challenge the call, and on top of that, she didn't even seem to be sure, as she chose not to confront the umpire about the situation.

However, soon a replay and slow motion, which was, of course, not available on the court, showed that the ball bounced twice and the umpires missed the call.

It was a costly mistake as that break played a huge part in the Pole's two-set win. After the break, Swiatek went on to win three consecutive games to win the opening set, and start the second set by winning the first game.
