Aryna Sabalenka made her return to Wimbledon and she really enjoyed her time on the court as she loves the event.
Aryna Sabalenka loves to play on grass and she loves to play at Wimbledon. That's pretty clear from the way she talked about the event so far in her career. She had a tremendous run in 2021 narrowly missing out on the final. Facing a very inspired Karolina Pliskova, Sabalenka took the opening set but lost the next two.
She had high hopes of making a return to the event last year but things didn't work out as she was banned from the event due to her nationality. As a Belarusian, Sabalenka was banned from the event due to her country's open support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. She played it off as not a huge deal last year but admitted this year that it was tough not being able to play.
As the ban was lifted this year Sabalenka was expected to make a return to the event and it happened as a minor visa issue was resolved allowing her to travel to London. The first match was a great one; she faced a tricky opponent but handled it really well winning in two sets. She enjoyed her time on the court tremendously opting to play attractive tennis at times with tweeners and other stuff.
You can see one of those at the end of the article as well as Sabalenka celebrating the rally despite losing the point. After the match, she once again spoke about the joy of being back at Wimbledon following last year.
Yeah, I mean, I really love Wimbledon. I have great memories from two years ago. I made the semifinals. I'm always enjoying my game here at Wimbledon, enjoying the atmosphere.
It was really tough period for me last year. I was just super happy to be here this year. Since then I really enjoyed every second today on court, enjoyed the atmosphere.
