Iga Swiatek is a fierce competitor, and she'll try anything to win, and that includes eavesdropping as she jokingly demonstrated at the 2022 World Tennis League.
The World Tennis League, which is played in Dubai, is an interesting exhibition tournament, which teams players into four different teams, and then they compete in singles and mixed doubles to earn valuable points for their team in the group stage, out of which the top two teams will make it to the final match.
In one of those matches, between The Kites and The Hawks, Alexander Zverev and Elena Rybakina from The Hawks were taking on Felix Auger-Aliassime and Sania Mirza from The Kites.
Traditionally, the match was attended by all members of both teams, including Iga Swiatek, who defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in her singles match earlier in the day.
During the mixed doubles, Swiatek made her way to the bench of the opposing team, where Zverev and Rybakina were sitting during a doubles match between them and Auger-Aliassime and Mirza.
Spy Swiatek attempted to listen in on their strategies but encountered a challenge. A Russian challenge. The duo were talking in Russian, a language she doesn't speak, so she pleaded for them to switch to English.
The Polish player even took it a step further, as she didn't want to be initially recognized, and change her attire to match the colors of The Hawks team. After Zverev and Rybakina didn't initially recognize her, the Pole made her presence known.
"Speak English guys," joked Swiatek as all players involved had a good laugh.
Rybakina was really surprised to see her colleague from the WTA Tour behind her bench, as she said: "What's going on Iga?" The Pole then jokingly asked where the German was going to serve, as Zverev joked: "I don't know myself."
