Venus Williams is having a really difficult season on the WTA Tour, and it continued also at the 2023 US Open.
During the 2023 season, the 43-year-old American seemed to be able to deliver some solid performances but also experience surprising losses. It all came down to injuries that often stopped her progress, and at the 2023 US Open, Williams was stopped by Greet Minnen already in the first round.
It was her 100th match at Flushing Meadows, but it ended with Williams winning only two games. It was certainly a disappointing result for the American, and after the loss, she has hinted that she may reconsider the last part of her season.
Traditionally, later in her career, Venus hasn't participated in any, or many, tournaments after the US Open, but due to the nature of this season, the veteran admitted that she may reconsider her previous decision.
"I typically haven't really played after the US Open for a number of years now. I may reconsider that this year because my year didn't go the way, in any way, shape or form, that I thought it would go. I was really getting good momentum into Wimbledon. That fall really kind of threw me for a loop for the summer. I don't know. I might. But I don't know what I'll do this fall. Definitely too soon to say."
Despite not being able to win the match, the American still had the New York crowd behind her, and also, during her post-match press conference, the seven-time singles Grand Slam champion showed that she was really happy about the support that she received.
"Yeah, it was really great to hear the support. I know the fans have been here for me forever, so that's fantastic to still have that support even more than ever. So, it's a beautiful thing, and I love the Open."
