"Thinking about the streak is not helping me" - Swiatek on her winning streak

By winning the 2022 Roland Garros, Iga Swiatek matched Venus Williams' record of consecutive matches won.

The 21-year-old Pole is unbeaten already in 35 matches in a row, and that's something that the tennis world hasn't seen since 2000 when Venus Williams had the same streak. Swiatek also broke Serena Williams' streak.

After the clay-court part of the season, Swiatek will try to extend her streak on grass, where she didn't have the best results in the past, despite winning the girl's Wimbledon in 2018.

After her triumph in Paris, the Polish player spoke about how much it meant to her to win her second Grand Slam title, as she didn't want to end her tennis career with only one.

"I think I was always chasing that second Grand Slam because I always thought, 'OK, the first one happened, but the second one is confirmation that you actually know what you're doing."

"I always had huge respect for Garbine [Muguruza], Simona [Halep], there are a lot of players who won two. All these girls showed consistency throughout so many years and they were able to win two times or even more."

Naturally, Swiatek was also asked about her winning streak, which now stands at 35 matches. However, the World No. 1 player doesn't want to focus on that too much, instead, she wants to focus on her tennis.

"When I start Wimbledon, I'm just going to think about getting through the first matches. I won't think about the streak because I know it's not helping me. I did the same here, and I know how to separate my mind from that and focus on tennis."

"But right now, for sure, I can think about that a little bit more, and I would love to add some matches to that streak. But I feel that chapter is closed for sure for the clay season, but also after the Sunshine Double [Indian Wells and Miami Open]."

"I didn't really have a lot of time to rest, and I really want to rest right now after Roland Garros. Because back then, I was like, I'll have three days off, but I couldn't really stop thinking about the season. Right now, I think I will have more time, and I really want to do my best to rest."
