'Thanks To Me': 17-Year-Old Andreeva Delivers Hilarious Speech After First Title

Mirra Andreeva won her maiden WTA Tour-level trophy at the 2024 Iasi Open in Romania, and after the match, she delivered one of the most hilarious speeches we've seen in a while.

The 17-year-old will arrive in Paris late because she spent the week before the Olympics in Iasi. It was a curious decision by the Russian, but it was a clay tournament, so it was an ideal preparation for the Olympic Games, which will also be played on clay at Roland Garros.

After all, it has been a while since fans have seen her on a clay court, even though she was great the last time she played on the red dirt. She was majestic this week in Iasi as well because she smashed a few opponents comfortably to make a deep run.

The win over Olga Danilovic required a signature comeback from Andreeva, as did the final against Elina Avanesyan. It was an all-Russian final, and Avanesyan was able to win the opening set.

Andreeva then won the second set and led 4-0 in the third when her opponent decided to retire from the match. It was played in really brutal conditions, mostly because they spent the whole day on site waiting for the rain to end.

Andreeva needed an early finish because of her participation in the Olympics, but the match ended very late. It wasn't ideal, but it was worth it because it was the first time Andreeva lifted a WTA title.

After the match, the Russian delivered a funny speech that captured her bubbly nature. She even thanked herself, which elicited plenty of reactions from her fans on social media.

"At the last but not least, I would also like to thank me for always fighting till the end especially today with such a tough battle from Elina. Also, I would like to thank me for not quitting and just staying out there and fighting my, I don’t know if I can say this, a** off."

"So yeah, just thanks to me. Thanks to everyone for this week, it was an amazing week for me. For sure, it’s going to stay in my heart for a very very long time."

Andreeva is only 17, so she has yet to become a professional in speeches, but in a sense, that's also good. She is showing herself as she is, and it's great and refreshing to see.

She is one of the brightest talents we've seen in recent years, so capturing her first trophy was a huge moment for her. There won't be much time to celebrate because she had to hop onto the plane immediately after and make her way to Paris.

It won't be easy because the draw paired her up with a tough player in Magda Linette, who, interestingly enough, also recently won a trophy. The Polish player triumphed in Prague, so both arrived late in Paris, which could balance things out a bit.
