Swiatek Wins Her 21st Consecutive Match To Reach Third Round At Wimbledon

Iga Swiatek extended her winning streak to 21 matches by beating Petra Martic at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

Swiatek didn't play a single preparation WTA event for this year's Wimbledon, but it's proving not to be an issue so far. The Polish player has won both of her matches so far comfortably.

The first match was a decent showing from the World No. 1 player, and she followed it up with another decent win against a tricky player who was having a good day.

Petra Martic is a challenging opponent and can play well on the grass, which she showed against the top seed. She might have lost the match, but she didn't make it easy for Swiatek, who admittedly is not playing a brilliant event so far, at least for her standards.

She doesn't even have to because, ultimately, as long as she keeps winning, she is achieving her goal. The opening set was fairly close because neither player had any early chances.

Martic did a fantastic job of keeping it close for most of the match, and part of that was the serve. She served well and won most of the points behind her first serve.

Swiatek's only chance came fairly late in the opening set, and she used it immediately as proper champions do, winning the first set of her second-round match 6-4.

The second set was very similar in that regard because, once again, Swiatek couldn't carve out break points early on. It only came in the eighth game of the second set after the Pole kept pushing and pushing.

Martic once again did a fantastic job of limiting chances, but eventually, Swiatek just proved too good. It was the same story that we saw in the opening set, and after taking that break, Swiatek easily won the match 6-4, 6-3 to reach the third round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
