Iga Swiatek pushed The Kites back into the lead in their tie against The Hawks at the 2022 World Tennis League.

The highest-ranked player on the WTA Tour is a clear leader of her team, and she proved it once again in a match against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The young Pole was entering the match with the previous victory over Caroline Garcia in her mind as her opponent was making her first appearance in singles in more than seven months.

As previously, Swiatek needed to win to keep the hopes of her team alive after Felix Auger-Aliassime and Sania Mirza lost in the mixed doubles.

The Pole had a better start as she got the first break, but the Russian soon responded and added another break to grab a 4-3 lead. However, that was the last game that Pavlyuchenkova managed to win in the first set as Swiatek won three consecutive games to win the first set 6-4.

In the second set, it was again the Russian who could finish the set with a victory as she led 3-1 after breaking her opponent and denying her four break points.

Yet, world no. 1 showed her strengths again as she won five consecutive games to win the match 6-4, 6-3 in 80 minutes and send her team into the lead.

In the men's singles match, Felix Auger-Aliassime from The Kites will play against Dominic Thiem from The Hawks.
