Iga Swiatek has now built a near four-digit advantage over closest rival Aryna Sabalenka for the World No. 1 ranking.
The Pole, who has 9,880 points despite falling just short of steering her country to a maiden United Cup success last Sunday, has a 975-point lead over Sabalenka, who Elena Rybakina comprehensively beat in the Brisbane final.
In the past week, Swiatek benefitted from a rule change by the WTA regarding points allocation. At the United Cup, she added 375 more points, which now means it will be impossible for Sabalenka to overtake her at the end of January, even if the Belarusian retains the Australian Open.
Rybakina climbed into the world's Top 3 after winning the first WTA 500 event of the new season in Brisbane. Gauff drops down to fourth place despite a successful title defense at the WTA 250 event in Auckland. The rest of the Top 10 remained unchanged.
Qinwen Zheng rose to a career-high ranking of No. 13, while USA's Madison Keys faces a rankings drop after withdrawing from the Australian Open. Teen prodigy Mirra Andreeva has rejoined the Top 50 thanks to another sensational week in Brisbane, where she scored her first Top 20 win of the season.
As one teenager rose, another tumbled. 19-year-old Linda Noskova drops out of the Top 50. The young Czech was defending runner-up points from Adelaide and only made the quarterfinals in Brisbane. Diane Parry made an encouraging start to 2024.
The Frenchwoman had gone six matches without a win in tour-level tournaments in the second half of 2023 but opened her account of the new season with a quarterfinal run in Auckland. She rises to World No. 70. Paula Badosa has fallen outside the Top 70 ahead of her comeback.
Badosa's compatriot, Rebeka Masarova, fell 29 places to a low of 94. The 24-year-old was defending runner-up points in Auckland but could not get past the first hurdle during her return this past week. Be sure to check all the latest movers on our WTA Rankings page, or check the Top 10 below.
