Swiatek Addresses Changes In Her Game In Attempt To Dominate Even More In 2024

Iga Swiatek was arguably the best player on the WTA Tour in 2023, but she wants to be even better, so she has started implementing some new things in her game.

For those of you who watched the Pole's matches regularly, you probably already spotted a few things here and there that make you go 'wait a minute.' As good as Swiatek is at what she's doing, she could do plenty of things better, and that's what this year will be about - becoming even better.

For example, as an aggressive baseliner, Swiatek barely goes forward, and she certainly doesn't use the drop shot or volleys as often as she could. Adding that to her game would give her another dimension to her game making her truly a nightmare opponent.

It doesn't hurt her as she's been beating opponents easily, but she confirmed that she is doing things a bit differently to become an even better player.

Well, I played two volleys in today and also one drive volley (smiling). That's something that wasn't so often before. This is something that we worked on, you know, me going forward a little bit and not always staying on the baseline.

Progressing as a player is very important, as is the competition. Swiatek can't slack off; otherwise, she'll be overtaken. For Swiatek, the baseline will always be home, but having these other skillsets can't hurt, and that's the whole point of it.

It's something that, you know, we have been working with the coach actually since we started, but now, you know, I'm taking more shots from the air.

So I feel like, you know, if we're going to get this done, I'm going to be a player that has more complete game, you know, than before. Yeah, for sure it's a step forward.

Let's see what else Swiatek comes up with in the coming months, because improving her volleys and using them more would be a major change.
