Svitolina Announces Tennis Break In Bid To "Find Clarity And Regain Focus"

Elina Svitolina has shared her decision to take a break from professional tennis so she can focus on other areas of her life.

Svitolina was eliminated in the US Open third round after a three sets defeat against American player Jessica Pegula. The loss followed an up-and-down North American stint for the Ukranian player after a quarter-final run at the Citi Open before early exits at the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters.

Following her US Open loss, Svitolina revealed some fitness issues and injury concerns that caused her problems at Flushing Meadows. Then, the 28-year-old took to her personal Twitter channel to announce that she is taking a break from tennis to focus on other aspects of her life.

"Life is a beautiful journey but I must admit, it can be overwhelming at times. I find myself constantly juggling multiple responsibilities, chasing my dreams and striving for success. It's easy to get caught up in this whirlwind of life but amidst it all I've come to realize the importance of pausing, breathing and taking a step back."

"Life's challenges may be daunting but I've learnt it's ok to take a break and recharge. It's during these moments of stillness that I gather the strength to keep going, to keep pushing forward towards my dreams. In these moments, I find clarity and regain my focus."

Svitolina only returned to the WTA tour in March following the birth of her daughter with fellow tennis professional, Gael Monfils. In that time, the 28-year-old has shot up to 26th in the rankings and reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in July.

However, the world number 26 did elaborate on some of her plans after she had put some time into physical recovery. Most importantly, the Ukrainian player said she was looking forward to relaxing with a few drinks when she switched off from tennis.

"I've got some exciting plans lined up! First, I'll be heading back home to soak up the love and laughter with my family and friends. Then' I'll be putting my recovery first while still finding time to kick back and enjoy a few ice cold beers."
