Rybakina Names Becoming World No. 1 As Her Goal Amid Current Success

Elena Rybakina put together probably the most impressive campaign out of all players so far in 2024 as she chases her goal of becoming world number one.

Rybakina has many dreams, but one big one is becoming number one on the WTA Tour. The Kazakhstani player has been at the top of tennis for several years now, but in the most recent seasons, she really established herself as one of the best.

She won her maiden Grand Slam trophy at Wimbledon in 2022 and has played one more Grand Slam final since then. This year has been an impressive campaign, with the Australian Open the only big stain.

She lost early there but already has two trophies to her name and will contest for the third title at the 2024 Qatar Open. If she wins it, she'll get even more points, which will be useful in pursuing the goal of being world number one.

After all, ahead of the final against Iga Swiatek, Rybakina admitted that it is a goal for her.

"Well, of course I wish is gonna happen one day, but still too early to say anything. I'm really happy with the way I play now. I think it's still not my best, and there is a lot of things to improve for me. Hopefully it's gonna happen if not this year, next year. So for sure it's my goal."

She's never been a player to make any grand statements, particularly about her tennis career and goals, but when speaking honestly, the world no. 4 is not shy to admit that she has big goals for her career.

She has the tools, and the level right now is certainly there, and now it's about keeping the level up. She's a hard worker, and the career she has is a testament to that.
