After beating Linda Fruhvirtova in the first round of the 2023 ASB Classic in Auckland, Emma Raducanu took on Viktoria Kuzmova in the second.

It all started well for the 2021 US Open champion, who seemed to be unstoppable in the first set. She lost only four points on her serve and was superb on the return as well as she didn't allow her opponent to win any points after the second serve.

However, things got tricky for the Brit in the second set. She had two break points in the fourth game, but she couldn't use those and soon faced two break points herself.

But Raducanu couldn't avoid broken and soon she was down 2-4. She then had a couple of break points in the eighth game, but wouldn't break her opponent until the tenth game when she levelled the score at 5-5.

Yet, she couldn't avoid being broken back and losing the second set 5-7. While many fans anticipated a fight in the third set, they wouldn't get it. Raducanu retired after the second set and started the season with yet another retirement as she suffered an unlucky ankle injury.
