How Ostapenko Gifted Ticket To Fan To Watch Swiatek Victory At US Open

Jelena Ostapenko provided one of her fans with the ultimate gift for her round of 16 clash against WTA's world number one Iga Swiatek at the 2023 US Open.

Ostapenko caused one of the upsets of the 2023 US Open so far as the Latvian player stunned Swiatek with a comeback victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 26-year-old lost 6-3 in the first set before hitting back to win the following two sets 6-3, 6-1.

It was a momentous occasion for Ostapenko, but it was also a huge moment for one fan in particular. Before the match, one of Ostapenko's biggest fans, Jonah Sobe reached out to the former Roland Garros champion and asked for tickets to the Swiatek match, which the WTA player duly delivered.

"If you have an extra ticket to give out I promise to cheer you on loudly!!!! No pressure though. Good Luck!!!"

"PENKO CAME THROUGH. I'M SHAKING Y'ALL"

It's fair to say that Ostapenko lived up to her end of the bargain by providing the tickets. But she also gave her super fan one of the biggest bonuses possible, thanks to her victory over Swiatek.

However, Sobe also showed that he was able to get behind the world number 20 at one of the biggest courts in world tennis. Throughout the contest, Sobe posted regular updates on his social media channels and sent plenty of pictures of himself with fellow Ostapenko fans.

After the match, Sobe shared his delight at being able to see his favourite player triumph at Arthur Ashe Stadium. In addition, the Arizona native had some words of advice for the 26-year-old's coaches.

“I love that she doesn't care what people think. It's my favorite thing about her. I lost my voice during her second round, and told her coaches during the match to cheer more like me.”
