Getting to Glasgow to play for Belgium at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals was pretty tough for Elise Mertens and she described what it entailed.

After the gruelling trip, she endured to get to Glasgow in time for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, Mertens' dedication to her country cannot be questioned. Many players found such a trip to be a logistical nightmare, which is why Iga Swiatek discussed the need for change with the WTA and said they would look into it.

"I would be frustrated if I lost but we won, so this is all good,” said Mertens after arriving to Scotland. She played on Monday in the final with Kudermetova and they were able to beat Krejcikova and Siniakova in the final.

“I had my flight at 10pm [from Fort Worth] and I was still doing media at 8:15pm. We rushed. I barely showered. We got to the airport at like 8:55pm. They said we had four minutes for the bags. One bag on the scale. Two minutes. Oh, my God.“ explained Mertens.

"My mom and I ran to the gate and we made it. Then three flights, we went to Madrid, went to London, and then to Glasgow." added Mertens.

Few players were willing to go on that journey, which is why so many came out against it. It is hoped that the WTA schedule would be changed to make it easier for players to represent their nations.
