Karolina Pliskova has struggled throughout 2022, failing to advance past the second round of the opening three Grand Slams of the year. She has decided to end her coaching relationship with Sascha Bajin.
Bajin is best known for his spell as Naomi Osaka's coach from 2017 to 2019. The Japanese star won back-to-back Grand Slam titles at the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open, improving exponentially during the German's time with her.
Osaka's decision to split with Bajin shortly after her Australian Open triumph shocked the tennis world. The four-time major winner did not give concrete details about the move, but it sounded like the pair had a falling out off the court.
Bajin began working with Pliskova in November 2020. Their most notable achievement as a partnership was Pliskova reaching her second Grand Slam final at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, narrowly losing the final to Ashleigh Barty.
Pliskova also made two WTA-1000 finals in 2021 at the Italian Open and Canadian Open. The Czech ended that year as the world No. 4, although she won no titles during that season.
Unfortunately, Pliskova's results have rapidly declined in 2022. As a result, she has decided to split from Bajin, although her social media post announcing the move indicated no animosity between the pair.
"Even good things sometimes comes to an end. I would like to thank Sascha Bajin for everything he did for me and my team. It was an incredible time and i learned a lot! Mainly how to be more positive and believe in myself. One of the best coaches out there, good luck my friend."
Bajin will likely find another top player to coach soon. He won the 2018 WTA Coach of the Year for his achievements with Osaka and is a highly respected name in the sport.
