Iga Swiatek arrived in Stuttgart earlier than some of her fellow opponents, having sat out the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers that took place last week.
The World No. 1's decision to miss the event, and the Miami Open at the end of last month, was due to a rip injury she sustained during her run to the last four at Indian Wells - a run that ended in a one-sided defeat to Elena Rybakina.
However, speaking to the press as part of media day ahead of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix this week, Swiatek has quelled any fears her strong base of fans may have had by declaring that she is fit, healthy and feeling good on the court.
I'm not injured anymore, so that's the most important thing for me. I feel like I used that time in Warsaw well to rest a little bit and to not think about tennis. I have still been working out physically a little bit and obviously coming back to practicing step by step. Here I am, and I think I'm ready.
The still-young Pole used her extra time in Stuttgart well, spending most days in intense training sessions with other players who were already in the city. If there was any worry of rustiness following a short period away from the court, it appears that Iga Swiatek is feeling confident of her form.
It's pretty easy to kind of just imagine that you are doing the same stuff on a match. So I would say, I'm ready. We'll see on court, but honestly, these practices tell me that I play like I wouldn't even had a break. So it's pretty nice.
The defending champion will open her campaign tomorrow in what will be a very tough examination against China's rising star, Qinwen Zheng.
