Swiatek complicated thigns quite a bit but survived an almost 3-hour clash with Qinwen Zheng 6-7(5) 6-0 6-2.

The first set was a proper battle between the players although neither looked particularly brilliant. Both Zheng and Swiatek had their moments but both missed quite a bit. Swiatek jumped out to a 3-0 lead but gave it right away. She then had a 4-2 lead and then served for the set at 5-4 but failed to close it out. She had a 40-15 in that game and 3 set points overall but still failed.

In the tiebreak Swiatek had a 5-2 lead but lost 5 conseuctive poitns to lost the tiebreak 5-7. It was the first set she lost at Roland Garros this year and it was because she committed 21 errors and hit only 12 winners. The 2nd set was much better. She jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Her opponent could not keep up, especially after a lower leg injury.

The bagel was the end result as Swiatek continued playing well in the final set as well. Zheng still struggled despite taking a MTO but even with all those struggles, she got gifted a few break points by Iga. Zheng failed to use them and Swiatek cruised from that point on. Swiatek added another break later on to finish off the match with 6-2. It was clear that the injury changed the course of the match and it's a shame.
