Naomi Osaka will have undoubtedly wanted a calming few days after her French Open exit, but she experienced the exact opposite during a frightening moment in Brooklyn, New York.

The four-time Grand Slam champion's very difficult season continued at Roland-Garros. She was knocked out by the 20-year-old American Amanda Anisimova in the first round, after an underwhelming showing.

Although the Japanese star did reach the final in Miami, her overall year so far has fallen below her very high standards. The 24-year-old will have certainly hoped to have a title to her name by this stage of the season.

Osaka returned to New York after her defeat at Roland-Garros. She then elected to attend a boxing match at the Barclays Centre, in Brooklyn, New York. But it turned out to be a stressful night for her and many others.

Osaka shared the story of what happened on her official Twitter page, describing the utter panic that set in when others at the venue thought there was a shooter present.

"I was just in the Barclays center and suddenly I heard shouting and saw people running, then we were being yelled at that there was an active shooter and we had to huddle in a room and close the doors, I was so fucking petrified man. I really hope everyone made it out safely, since I’m tweeting this we made it out ok."

It was later reported that the panic was caused by a sound disturbance, which made people believe that a gun had been fired. This led to a stampede, with 10 people being injured during this extremely unfortunate incident.

Osaka being shaken after an incident like that is completely understandable. Thankfully, the two-time US Open champion confirmed that she made it out without any injuries. Hopefully, those who were injured make a full recovery.
