'I Should Be Very Confident': Raducanu Optimistic About Her Chances At Wimbledon

by Zachary Wimer

Emma Raducanu's last match on grass didn't go that well, but the Brit is very confident ahead of Wimbledon, where she'll face a tricky opponent in the first round.

Raducanu has been amazed with her recent performances on grass, having played really well, but the last match on the surface didn't go so well. She struggled a lot with the wind in Eastbourne, but it also served as a reminder that while she is playing fairly well, she's not immune to a bad performance.

Even so, after the loss to Daria Kasatkina at the 2024 Eastbourne International, the 2021 US Open winner admitted that she's very confident heading into Wimbledon as she remained focused on thinking positively and falling into the trap of tearing herself down with unnecessary negative thoughts.

"I feel good. I think I should be very confident. I feel like I have every right to be in the position that I am now because I have been training, I have been working for it. Losing today means I get a day off tomorrow and then get to train at Wimbledon."

Raducanu, after her Eastbourne loss

The Wimbledon draw wasn't particularly kind to Raducanu because she will face a tricky player in Ekaterina Alexandrova, who plays amazing tennis on grass. The Russian has won trophies on grass and bested some really good players.

"You have to just spin everything to be a positive. For me, that’s how I’m going to spin it right now. I’m looking forward to it. I’m happy to be back in London. It’s where I call home."

A very clean hitter with a massive serve, Alexandrova won't be an easy out for Raducanu, but the Brit certainly can beat her if she plays her game. If she does win that match, it will be a big confidence booster for her ahead of the next matches.
