Since returning from a break, Andreescu has endured some struggles, but the Canadian is determined to keep working hard to get back to her best.

It has been nearly three years since Andreescu generated headlines worldwide by winning the 2019 US Open. In the final, she stunned Serena Williams, who will retire at this year's iteration of the event at Flushing Meadows.

Andreescu also won the Indian Wells Open and the Canadian Open in 2019. Still just 19 years old after completing those achievements, she was immediately tipped for greatness.

However, those expectations weighed on Andreescu. She struggled mentally and physically and elected to take a five-month break after the 2021 Indian Wells Open. The 22-year-old returned at the Stuttgart Open.

Andreescu had an impressive run to the final of the Bad Homburg Open on grass in June, but she has also struggled for consistency. Despite admitting to not being at her best yet, Andreescu plans to keep grinding to improve.

"I definitely don’t think I’m there yet. I just gotta keep grinding but I also gotta tell myself I can’t play very good every single day. It’s just not what it is sadly, I wish I could do that. I really, really want this especially after so much time off, taking time for myself and all those rough moments."

Although results have been mixed, Andreescu is in a healthy place and admits she would have been more negative about her results last year before she took a break from tennis.

"I really feel like I’m in a great place right now and even me just talking right now — last year for instance, I would be more negative but I just feel so great. Also, I’m home, the crowd was for me, win or lose, I feel that they’ve always supported me so that means a lot."
