Halep Admits Doping Saga 'Baggage' To Stay With Her For Some Time Despite Being Cleared

Simona Halep might have been cleared of her doping allegations but the Romanian admitted that it will stay with her for a little while.

Moving on from something bad that happened in the past is an ideal scenario for any person, especially an athlete, but it's far more complicated than many people would like to admit.

Halep might have been cleared of her doping allegations, and her tennis career is back, but it's going to stay with her for a while. It's not something that she'll just brush aside easily and pretend like it never happened.

She can't because it happened, and it saw her lose more than one year of her tennis career. She spoke about that in an interview with AP News recently, admitting that she won't be able to forget easily.

"What I went through is not easy. So I cannot forget, like this just because I got cleared. There is baggage that probably will stay longer, and I cannot forget, like, one day (to the next) what happened."

Halep to AP news

It's certainly a stain on her tennis career, which many won't forget. She was cleared, but we saw how some of her colleagues reacted when the news came down and even when she came back. Caroline Wozniacki's recent comment annoyed Halep, who hit back at those comments quite fiercely.

"So I have to handle it better. I have to control my emotions coming back. So there is a (lot) that is not easy. But the joy, I hope, will help me."

That's only the external part. The internal part is something she'll have to get comfortable with herself, and as she admitted, it will simply take some time. It's normal, but luckily, she will have ten months of the year dedicated fully to tennis.
