Gauff Swiftly Dispatches Another Challenger In Auckland To Reach Semifinals

Coco Gauff is showing that we should certainly count with her in 2024 as she's beating one opponent after the other at the ASB Classic in Auckland.

Last year, the teenager beat everyone in two sets to win the title in Auckland, and it really seems that conditions in New Zealand suit the 19-year-old, as she's doing it even more dominantly this year.

After losing six games in her opening-round win, and then losing three games in her second-round victory, Gauff improved even further in the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 tournament.

Improvement is something that she talked about to the press, but with the way she played in her first matches, it was difficult to see where she could potentially push her level even further.

Similarly to her previous matches, the 19-year-old started with a break against the eight-seeded Varvara Gracheva, establishing an early 3-0 lead. The naturalized French player born in Russia then won one service game, but after that, the American broke her serve again, winning the opening set 6-1.

In the second set, Gauff was even more dominant on her serve, losing only four points in total, and on top of that, she managed to pose even more danger on the return, breaking her opponent's serve three times.

As a result, the young American tennis prodigy won the match 6-1, 6-1 in only 54 minutes, and reached the semifinals of the 2024 ASB Classic in Auckland.

Up next, she will take on another compatriot at the tournament, this time the fourth-seeded Emma Navarro, who has been impressive at the tournament so far.

The two have never met before, but naturally, the top seed is expected to be the favourite, as she attempts to keep her third place in the WTA Rankings, with Elena Rybakina having a chance to overtake her this week.
