Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula were two crucial pieces in Team US' puzzle as they secured their spot at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

The Qualifiers tie between the USA and Austria was contested at the Delray Beach Tennis Center in Delray Beach, USA. The home team was heavily favoured and players made sure not to underestimate their opponents. The two teams were fighting for a spot at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals which will be played from November 7th to 12th.

It all started with a comfortable win from Gauff over Julia Grabher on Friday. The American won 6-1, 6-3, and built great foundations for her good friend and doubles partner to increase the lead before the end of day one. Pegula did exactly that as she beat Sinja Kraus 6-0, 7-5 and the United States were only one win away from the Finals appearance.

On Saturday, Jessica Pegula took on Julia Grabher. The American no. 1 won 6-1, 6-3 to seal the deal for Team US. After that, one more doubles match was played as Gauff teamed up with Caty McNally to beat Melanie Klaffner and Sinja Kraus 6-1, 6-4 to complete the clean sweep for their team.

Pegula was the player who won the crucial two singles matches and both she and Gauff are very familiar with the area where the tie was played. After securing the win for the United States, Pegula said:

"I really wanted to clinch today. It’s so much more exiting when you get to guarantee your team through. It’s nice to play at home. We just played in Miami, and that felt like home too, so it’s been a fun few weeks."
