Coco Gauff's confidence has grown significantly following her recent and consistent success, especially after winning the 2023 US Open.
A newly surfaced video of her as an 11-year-old budding tennis player shows that she always had the drive to succeed. Gauff lifted her first Grand Slam title on Saturday after she came back from a set down to defeat new WTA number one Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final.
The win capped an impressive North American leg of the 2023 season after Gauff won the Citi Open and the Cincinnati Masters before her victory at Flushing Meadows. To achieve such accolades at the age of just 19 years old, you need a lot of confidence, hard work and determination.
It became clear that Gauff has always possessed these qualities when a new video from the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy was released after Gauff's US Open win, in which she claimed she was a top player.
"I feel like I'm one of the best in the world in my age group. Even in higher age groups. I prefer not to say it because I'm not really a boastful person. I'm humble but when I know that I'm the best and I should always stay at the best,"
As a result of her win over Sabalenka in the US Open final, Gauff reached a new career-high ranking of third place in the WTA. With her newfound consistency and belief, it is likely that the 19-year-old will be targeting more success and higher rankings in the future.
Yet, this was another theme from the American star's childhood video clip as the 11-year-old Gauff explained that her desire is to get to the number one spot and hold onto it.
"And I was always told, 'It's easier to get to the top but it's harder to stay there', and my goal is just to stay there and be better, and then when it comes to professional, I'll be the greatest of all time,"
