Emma Raducanu experienced something that no tennis player wants to experience as she rolled her ankle only a few days before the first major of the season.

The British player chose to start her season at the WTA 250 event in Auckland, but it wasn't a success, even though her on-court performances were not an issue. An injury was.

Because of that, she was forced to retire from her second-round match at the 2023 ASB Classic in Auckland, and her Australian Open participation was in doubt.

Her colleagues, Paula Badosa and Ajla Tomljanovic, were also unlucky, as both had to withdraw from the event.

On the other hand, according to her own words, Raducanu managed to recover in time, and she will be ready to rock and roll at the 2023 Australian Open.

In the first round, she will take on Tamara Korpatsch, and speaking ahead of the event, Raducanu admitted that she feels good despite the injury setback.

"I've been able to do preparation, albeit more limited than usual. But I'm feeling in a good place to go out there and give it my best shot. We were thrown a bit of a curveball but we remained optimistic. It's been a team effort to get me to this place. We've been building it up pretty gradually."

The 2021 US Open champion then talked more in detail about her injury and how it affects her. Although she wasn't able to complete enough matches, it's not something that would worry her too much.

"For the ankle, I feel really good. It's going to be more introducing certain things, and the rate at which we've had to do it has been really quick. But I've not really played much tennis ever in my career so I'm kind of used to it. And I'm not stressed about lack of tennis that much."
