Amanda Anisimova is returning to tennis after her break, and she's looking to do her best, whatever that ends up being.
The American player had really frustrating campaign the last time she played, and eventually, she grew tired of it and elected to take a break from the sport. It was much needed, according to people close to her, and it's not a bad thing.
We've seen players stepping away from the sport to refocus and find their love for the sport again. Anisimova is ready to get back to tennis and the goal is rather simple. Grow and improve every day while giving your best. Whatever happens, happens.
With each day, getting the most I can out of myself. Going into this season, there have been people asking me what are your goals. In the past, I would have specific answers for them. Now my goal is just to do my best, what's in my control, get the most out of each day that I can and that's all that I can expect from myself.
One of the reasons Anisimova stepped away from tennis was the pressure. There was plenty of pressure coming from the outside but also inside, as she was very strict with her goals, and failing to reach them would destroy her internally.
Adopting this new perspective is a lot more freeing. She knows that she's giving her all, and that's all you can do, really. Things will either work out or not and not all of that is in your control. Sometimes, some players are simply better.
Going in with that perspective is more freeing. I put in the work every single day and I have the mental and physical capacity to do that, which I didn't have before, which is a much better feeling now.
