Coco Gauff spent much of her life in Delray Beach and calls that city her home though she has a very strong bond with Atlanta.
The American spent the first seven years of her life in the Georgian capital, and she still loves to return to the city. Her bond with Atlanta is quite strong, and she's helping the city bolster its tennis capabilities by investing money into the courts in the city.
Partnering with the Art in the Paint organization, Gauff will help revitalize four public tennis courts in Brownwood Park. Gauff doesn't have a chance to return to Atlanta out of tennis reasons often as the city doesn't host an event, but she did play an exhibition match against Leylah Fernandez. She won that match and thanked fans for the support she received because it meant a lot to her, because of multiple reasons.
I mean, the support that we got today was insane. They’ve made me the person who I am 100%. Moving from Atlanta to South Florida was a big change, but I love the culture here in the city. Being a Black woman in tennis and having the support from all the people in Atlanta means a lot to me truly.
This year will see her team up with a few sides to work towards the goal of restoring the courts in the city in order to give kids a chance to play tennis in Brownwood Park. When it comes to tennis, she'll make her return to Washington next week.
Can’t wait to see Brownwood Park transform over the next year Thank you to the city of Atlanta, the Mayor’s office, @eastatlantakids and NB for a great day helping us create a space for the next generation of dreamer.
