In her first round match, against Alison Riske she triumphed 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 and she kept the dominant style from the last set of the first round also in the second round in Madrid.

After losing the opening game of the match, the young Canadian went on to win 10 games in a row before her opponent finally won another game to make it 6-1, 4-1. However, that didn't stop Andreescu as she marched on to win the remaining two games of the match to eventually win it 6-1, 6-1 and advance into the third round of the 2022 Madrid Open.

In the next round, she can face already a third American in a row as she will meet the winner of the match between the twelfth-seeded Jessica Pegula or Kaia Kanepi who is a qualifier in the Spanish capital.
