'Athletes Are Human Beings': Swiatek's Psychologist Concurs With Djokovic Claims

Iga Swiatek's longtime psychologist, Daria Abramowicz, applauded Novak Djokovic's powerful statement regarding athletes and their vulnerable sides.

Recently, Djokovic gave a fascinating insight into many tennis-related subjects and his professional career on 60 Minutes. Regarding mindset, Djokovic firmly believes that athletes should always have a skeptical mind, and it is completely fine to have fears and doubts.

Djokovic reflected on his career and admitted that he had always carried this baggage with him in every match he played, adding that athletes are humans bound with emotions. Instead of championing positivity, they'll always have free will as far as emotions are in play.

Because players are not immortals, they should find ways to expunge their emotions. For players to co-exist in positions of superiority, they learn to stay within their feelings for a short time, which separates the very top players from the mediocre ones.

Abramowicz, who has coached WTA World No. 1 Swiatek for over four years, reacted to Djokovic's claims and agreed that athletes are vulnerable with their mindset because they are indeed humans.

"Athletes are, first and foremost, human beings."

Abramowicz has received enormous praise from Swiatek for her massive role in the team. A few weeks ago, the 22-year-old spoke candidly about the importance of destigmatizing some aspects of human psychology.

Having grown up with an introverted personality, Swiatek has taken flak from some pundits and fans. But she has learned to be "open" and not be restricted by complex beliefs or emotions. Swiatek's mental clarity and strength have improved immeasurably in the last 12 months.

She's been able to handle the pressure with poise and maturity in the second half of the season. Despite relinquishing the World No. 1 ranking after the US Open, the Pole was able to reclaim her throne by winning the final two tournaments of the season.
