Aryna Sabalenka vs Elena Rybakina: 2024 Brisbane International - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina were on fire this week at the 2024 Brisbane International, but who will actually win the title?

Elena Rybakina never came close to losing a set this week in Brisbane, beating several players comfortably. It was a super impressive showing from a player who generally does really well in Australia.

This exact same thing can be said of Aryna Sabalenka, though. She, too, was very impressive this week, winning several matches easily.

She, too, didn't really come close to losing a set, let alone the match, and she too does really well in Australia. So, how might this latest showdown between them go?

Head-to-head:

Well, we have plenty to choose from regarding the H2H. So far, they have played nine matches, including a recent one at the World Tennis League, which Sabalenka won. She leads the H2H in general because the H2H outside of the exhibition matches is 5-2 for Sabalenka.

Rybakina has managed only two wins so far on the WTA Tour, and they were in Beijing not too long ago and in Indian Wells last year. Both players are streaky, and as silly as it sounds, the better player wins on that day.

Prediction:

What do I mean by that? Well, it's pretty simple. Both players are capable of beating the other, and it mostly comes down to who has a better day. Obviously, that's impossible to predict, which gives you an idea of what we're looking at here.

I still think that Sabalenka looks a bit more impressive because she was actually pushed a little bit in her matches. Rybakina could win the match, but I just like Sabalenka more from what I saw this week.

She's had the upper hand generally as well, which contributes.

Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka to win in three sets.
