Aryna Sabalenka Acknowledges Massive Fan Support In Difficult Times

by Zachary Wimer

Aryna Sabalenka endured some tough weeks recently, and she took a moment to thank fans for their overwhelming support.

This year started well for Sabalenka, who successfully defended her Australian Open trophy, winning the second Grand Slam trophy of her career. The Belarusian didn't have a good time in the Middle East and didn't go all the way to Indian Wells, but her year was still very good overall.

Unfortunately, that took a turn for the worse at the Miami Open, which started with a tragedy that left her former partner dead. News about his death shocked the tennis community, as did some other news that came out after that.

Sabalenka found herself in a tough spot but showcased tremendous willpower by playing at the WTA 1000 event. She didn't talk to the media but confirmed that she was separated from her former boyfriend at the time of his death but obviously still very close to him on a personal level.

She would actually play well and have won her first match since his death. For obvious reasons, the matches were a bit different, and there wasn't a lot of smiling from the Belarusian who would ultimately lose in her second match in Miami.

We haven't seen or heard from her since then, but she recently posted an update on social media thanking her fans for the overwhelming support she received since the tragedy.

"I want to take a moment to say thank you to all my fans for your outpouring love and support during this difficult time. Your kind words mean so much and I carry them with me every day. I am so grateful for you all."

Her next event is supposed to be the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, where she played the final last year, but lost to an incredible Iga Swiatek.
