Ajla Tomljanovic will return to tennis at the WTA 125 event in Parma, as she confirmed ahead of the tournament.
Some time ago, Tomljanovic was really coming into her own, becoming one of the better players on the WTA Tour. Unfortunately, as it sometimes happens, injuries impacted and derailed that journey quite a bit.
This year, much like last year, has been impacted heavily by that. She has only managed to play seven matches so far this year and won two of them, so she's certainly seen better days on a tennis court
Her comeback will unfold at the upcoming Parma Ladies Open, which begins on May 13th and runs during the second week of the ongoing Italian Open in Rome. The Parma Ladies Open is a WTA 125 event, so it's a lower-tier event that will still feature some good competition.
It's certainly the right choice for Tomljanovic to get some matches in before Roland Garros, where she will likely attempt to compete, even though it wouldn't be surprising if she didn't.
The announcement came from Tomljanovic herself, who filmed herself confirming her participation. The event posted the video on Instagram. It's the first time she'll compete at the event.
"Ciao tutti, it's Ajla here. I'm really excited to announce that I'll be coming to Parma to compete at the Parma Ladies Open. It's been a while since I've been back in Italy so I'm so excitd to be back since it's my first one."— Tomljanovic confirms her Parma Ladies Open participation<br>
"I've never been to Parma so I'm excited to explore the city, see all the passionate fans and of course the food. Can't wait to see you all there."
At her best, Tomljanovic is certainly among the better players, and she will try to confirm that during this attempt to restart her career.
