The 2024 Thailand Open will commence just a day after the conclusion of the Australian Open and, surprisingly, possesses a strong lineup for a WTA 250 event.
Running from January 29th to February 4th, the Thailand Open will held in the tourist district of Hua Hin, where 32 single players will battle for $267,082 worth of prize money.
Apart from a great number of attractions and activities, the Thailand Open will offer the participants a chance to call themselves a WTA champion in addition to amassing ranking points.
The entry list is led by 2023 Australian Open semifinalist Magda Linette, who won the Thailand Open during its staging as an international WTA event in 2020.
Aside from the Polish veteran, five other players ranked in the world's Top 50 (entry ranking) have signed up to play in this tournament, including United Cup champion Tatjana Maria, China's No. 2 player Lin Zhu, Xinyu Wang, Arantxa Rus, and Mayar Sherif.
Some of the most dangerous unseeded players in the field include Yue Yuan, Camila Osorio, Emina Bektas, and Czech teenager Linda Fruhvirtova, whose only tour-level title so far has come from the Asian continent (Chennal 2022). Spain's Paula Badosa is also a name to be reckoned with.
The prize money breakdown is as follows. The champion will be the highest earner during the week in Thailand as she is guaranteed to earn $35,250 before taxes and will also receive 250 ranking points.
This is a marginal increase from 2023, when Lin Zhu pocketed $34,228 after winning the title. The runner-up and the two semifinalists will also make five figures in the region of $20,830 and $11,610, respectively.
The beaten finalist will receive 163 points, while the semifinalists will each receive 98 points. Quarterfinalists, meanwhile, will see a sharp decrease in prize money to $6,608, but it will still be slightly higher than last year's earnings.
Second-rounders will earn $4,040, while those who fail to progress beyond the first round will be renumerated to $2,890. The complete breakdown of prize money and points destruction is indicated below.
