The Abu Dhabi Open will also be part of the WTA calendar in 2024, and it's not a surprise that Ons Jabeur headlines the entry list.
As probably the most successful female Arab player, the Tunisian is headlining efforts to increase the popularity of tennis in this region. The Abu Dhabi Open is one of a very few tournaments held in the region, but when the Tour already travels there, Jabeur makes sure to take part.
The 2024 Abu Dhabi Open will be held from February 5th to 11th, 2024, and it will offer players a great chance to follow up on their Australian Open form, or, on the contrary, catch up with the rest of the Tour.
Jabeur was set to compete at the tournament last year, but she had to withdraw because of surgery. However, in 2024, the three-time Grand Slam finalist will maximize her efforts to appear in Abu Dhabi.
On the other hand, last year's champion, Belinda Bencic, won't defend her title, as she announced her pregnancy recently, making it impossible for her to compete at the WTA 500 tournament.
But the tournament organizers managed to secure some big names, thanks to a wild card, which they gave to the 2021 US Open champion, Emma Raducanu, who missed the large part of the 2023 season.
The entry list features many strong players, as the initial cut off was as low as 32nd place in the WTA Rankings. Elena Rybakina is the highest-ranked player, and other two Top 10 players, besides her and Jabeur, are Maria Sakkari and Barbora Krejcikova.
On top of that, many players from the Top 20 of the WTA Rankings are set to take part, as Beatriz Haddad Maia, Jelena Ostapenko, Liudmila Samsonova, Daria Kasatkina, Veronika Kudermetova, and Caroline Garcia all signed up for the tournament.
