The 2023 Hamburg Open will be held from July 23rd to 29th and it's one of the WTA 250 clay-court events in the calendar.
Fans in Hamburg, Germany are happy enough to see both ATP and WTA competitions in their city, and while the men's event dates back to 1892, the women's event, which started in 1982 but was then stopped in 2022, was held again for the first time only in 2021.
Therefore, in 2023, it will be only the third time that the tournament will be played since starting again. The two champions were Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Bernarda Pera, and while the Romanian won't participate this year, the defending champion from the United States appears on the entry list.
Last year, Pera defeated Anett Kontaveit in the final, but fans in Hamburg surely won't see the Estonian, as she ended her professional tennis career at 27 during this year's Wimbledon. But they will be able to see a lot of players that will take care of competitive action.
Daria Kasatkina leads the entry list and the Russian will be joined by quite a few compatriots. Anastasia Potapova, Anna Kalinskaya, Kamilla Rakhimova, and Diana Shnaider are all set to compete in the German city.
Joining them in the very strong field will be Donna Vekic, Mayar Sherif, Sorana Cirstea, and also Jasmine Paolini. Alycia Parks will also make an appearance and so should Yulia Putintseva and also Martina Trevisan
