Mirra Andreeva is one of the biggest talents on the WTA Tour, and she's proving it with every match that she plays, most recently at the 2024 Roland Garros.
The teenager seemingly does well at every tournament that she enters for the first time. Last year, she reached the fourth round of the Madrid, and this year, she even made it to the quarter-finals of the tournament in Madrid.
On top of that, she won her first match at each major she played for the first time, and the French Open is the first Grand Slam that she plays for the second time in her very young career.
Last year, as a 16-year-old, she made it to the third round, beating Alison Riske and Diane Parry while losing only six games along the way, before being ousted by the former finalist at the event, Coco Gauff, despite winning the opening set in the tie-break.
This year, she started with the seemingly convincing victory as last year. The Russian was taking on Emina Bektas, who is 31-year-old world no. 98 from the United States, but not a very experienced player on the clay courts.
That showed immediately, as Andreeva broke early in the opening set, and she then added one more break, while saving four break points in the process, easily winning the first set 6-2.
The teenager's returning performance was very good in this match, but the same couldn't be said for her serving, even though at times, it was really clicking for the young player.
That showed in the second set, when Andreeva lost her serve once, but thanks to breaking her opponents three times, she could easily win the match 6-2, 6-3 to reach the second round of the 2024 Roland Garros.
Up next, the youngster will play against the winner of the match between the 19th-seeded Victoria Azarenka and former Roland Garros semi-finalist, Nadia Podoroska.
