Carlos Alcaraz recently participated in a game with a magician that involved him guessing his retirement year and his future wife's name.
Alcaraz's career is still in its opening stages. It may not feel like that since the 21-year-old has already secured four Grand Slams, been the world No. 1, and won other prestigious titles like the Indian Wells Open.
Tennis legends like John McEnroe have called Alcaraz the most talented player at such a young age in tennis history. His uniquely complete game makes him a crowd favorite worldwide because it is electrifying.
Many analysts have predicted that Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will dominate tennis for several years. The young pair were the best players in 2024, with Sinner winning the Australian Open and US Open and Alcaraz claiming the French Open and Wimbledon.
Although Novak Djokovic will try to bounce back strongly in 2025 after hiring his former rival Andy Murray as coach, the 24-time Grand Slam champion's domination of men's tennis ended in 2024 because of Alcaraz and Sinner's emergence.
The quality of Alcaraz and Sinner's matches against each other is another reason many predict they will dominate the ATP Tour for years. An example was Alcaraz outlasting the Italian in a brutal China Open final this year.
Other epic battles between the pair include five-set matches at the 2022 US Open and 2024 French Open. They always seem to bring out the best in each other, and their rivalry could become one of the best in tennis history.
The pair's level was so good in 2024 that Thanasi Kokkinakis does not think it is unreasonable to compare them to Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer, who are widely viewed as the greatest players ever.
Although tennis predictions can never be made with 100% certainty, those who think Alcaraz and Sinner will keep dominating are using their outstanding tennis and respective young ages to argue that will be the case.
By contrast, Alcaraz had to make predictions without any strong evidence to support them during an entertaining appearance with the magician Daniel Fernandez. The clip of Alcaraz interacting with the magician can be viewed below.
Fernandez gives Alcaraz a piece of paper and tells him to consider a situation in which he only needs one more Grand Slam to have the most in history and achieves it in his last major appearance.
The magician asks Alcaraz which year he will play his last Grand Slam and retire. After much thought, the 21-year-old changes his answer from 2034 to 2037 and states that he imagines his last major appearance being at Wimbledon.
Fernandez then gets Alcaraz to answer that he imagines having three children in the future before being asked what his wife's name will be. The current world No. 3 thinks long and hard about it before answering with Maria.
Alcaraz was left stunned when the piece of paper Fernandez gave him had the retirement year and his future wife's name that the young star answered with. Alcaraz was left amused and amazed, but like a true magician, Fernandez does not reveal how he pulled off the trick.
