Mirra Andreeva makes tennis look very easy, and part of it is just trying to keep it simple because, most of the time, it is.
Andreeva is a 16-year-old tennis phenom. She's not the only 16-year-old tennis phenom because we have seen a few in history, but there is something different with her. She's looking even more impressive than Coco Gauff looked a few years ago, and that's saying a lot.
There is a certain simplicity with which she wins matches, and no match showed it better than the one against Ons Jabeur at the 2024 Australian Open. She lost only two games against Jabeur and it was perfect example of how simple tennis can be.
It's a focused effort for her as she generally tries to avoid overthinking, especially about being a 16-year-old prodigy, both during a match and off the court.
"I just try to not to think about that. I just -- I don't think that I achieve something incredible, so I have time still to do that. Sometimes when I'm lying in bed, I can overthink a little bit, but the next morning I'm totally fine."— <br>
Overthinking is extremely common at a very young age, but her age also helps her avoid it. She's not overly concerned with the rankings or anything like that. She just focuses on her tennis and what happens on the court, and that's pretty good advice for any player.
"I mean, I'm 16. Why do I have to think about the rankings? I'm going a bit higher, and so my goal is to go higher and higher maybe for a little bit but still higher. So I don't know. I just try not to think about that and just to think about tennis and that's it."
We'll see how far she goes as the draw looks pretty decent for her. She plays Diane Parry in the next round.
