The top four seeds lost early at the 2023 Shanghai Masters, while Andrey Rublev marched on to the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz lost in the fourth round of the 2023 Shanghai Masters, as Grigor Dimitrov surprisingly outplayed him to win the match 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Daniil Medvedev was the second seed at the tournament, but he also lost, as Sebastian Korda proved to be better, winning 7-6, 6-2 in the third round of the tournament.
The same goes for third seed Holger Rune, who suffered a 6-0, 6-2 shock by Brandon Nakashima already in the second round, and fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, who crashed out with a 4-6, 6-3, 5-7 defeat to Ugo Humbert in the third round.
Rublev, who is the fifth seed at the Shanghai Masters, became the only Top 5 seed to secure a spot in the quarter-finals after he defeated Tommy Paul in his fourth-round match, 7-5, 7-5.

With the top four seeds out of the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the 2023 season, the Russian player remained the highest-seeded player in the Shanghai Masters draw.
His next opponent will be the 32nd-seeded Humbert, who eliminated Botic van de Zandschulp, Tsitsipas, and J.J. Wolf on his way to the quarter-final round.
Humbert is certainly a challenging player to face at this stage of the tournament, but Rublev will be happy to know that he won't have to face a higher-ranked player in the remainder of the tournament, as he's the highest-ranked seed remaining.
That shifts the odds significantly in his favor, and adding an ATP Masters 1000 title to his trophy collection late in the season would certainly further boost the Russian player's confidence.
