Jannik Sinner is enjoying plenty of success as the World No. 1 player, but he will soon stop his collaboration with coach Darren Cahill.
The 23-year-old Italian player started his 2025 Australian Open campaign with two wins. He first beat Nicolas Jarry, and in the second round, despite losing a set, he bested Tristan Schoolkate.
It was an important win for Sinner, as it challenged his mental strength since he had to come back from a set down. With this win, he set up a third-round meeting with Marcos Giron.
The win certainly didn't make just Sinner and the whole of Italy happy, but also his coaches Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill. However, one of them won't be part of his team soon.
Vagnozzi joined the team in February 2022 after Sinner parted ways with Riccardo Piatti, and soon after that, also Cahill joined the team, officially starting with the young Italian in July 2022.
Since then, the coaching pairing has enjoyed plenty of success with their player, as they were even jointly named the 2023 ATP Coach of the Year. However, now it seems that Cahill will leave Sinner's team after the 2026 season.
After his win over Schoolkate, Sinner talked to the media, as he usually does after his matches, and during an interview with Italian Eurosport, he was asked about his coach Cahill.
In particular, Sinner was asked about the presence of Cahill's dad during the 23-year-old's recent practice session. He admitted that he met Cahill's father already before in Adelaide. That's where Cahill was born, but this time, the meeting was even more emotional.
"It was very very nice, a different moment because I met him when I played in Adelaide, but just a few years ago and this time it was a little different. It was very very nice, an emotion because Darren has been on the circuit for many years."
Continuing further, Sinner said that this would be the 59-year-old Australian's last season in his team, breaking the news of their upcoming split.
That left the interviewer surprised, but Sinner insisted that Cahill "said it himself" previously. While the Australian coach might not have been so clear with the fact that he would leave Sinner's team, the Italian made it clear.
"He said that it is his last season, so meeting his family is always nice. He said it himself, in an interview too, so it is not new. Let's see, yes."
Unless Cahill changes his mind, this will mark yet another change in Sinner's team, which will be almost completely different, with only coach Vagnozzi remaining part of the team that was formed back in 2022.
Sinner's physiotherapist and fitness coach left the team after his infamous doping case when he was contaminated through a massage.
