A commentator at the 2025 US Open sparked rumors about Iga Swiatek's personal life after the description he used for her psychologist, Daria Abramowicz.
Swiatek's relationship with Abramowicz has generated much attention. She began working with the psychologist as a 17-year-old, and the former WTA world No. 1 considers the 37-year-old a pivotal part of her success.
However, some have wondered whether Abramowicz works more closely with Swiatek than is usual for mental coaches. Many psychologists do not appear at each match that the athletes they work with play.
Rumors circulated that Tomasz Wiktorowski's unexpected departure in October 2024 was caused by him falling out with Abramowicz and believing she had too much influence, but he subsequently said that it was not the cause of his split with Swiatek.
The six-time Grand Slam champion played Ekaterina Alexandrova in the US Open fourth round. She produced another clinical display to triumph 6-3, 6-1 and set up a rematch of the 2025 Wimbledon final against Amanda Anisimova.
Eurosport is one of the US Open's many broadcasting partners worldwide. With the score at 4-3, 40-0 to Swiatek in the opening set, a British commentator referred to Abramowicz as the 24-year-old's "sports psychologist and life partner."
The term "life partner" is somewhat ambiguous. It could be used as a way of communicating that Abramowicz helps Swiatek in life more than is usual for a psychologist, and that will likely remain the case.
However, the commentator's words can also be interpreted as Abramowicz being Swiatek's romantic partner. Some have speculated about that, but there has been no confirmation from either woman.
The nature of Swiatek and Abramowicz's relationship is a matter for them, and that should be respected by all tennis fans, but the Eurosport commentator's comments led to a reaction from many on social media.

Swiatek to play against Wimbledon opponent Anisimova again

Swiatek's 6-0, 6-0 Wimbledon final victory against Anisimova was extraordinary. Although the Pole entered the match as a favorite because of her history of winning every Grand Slam final, the score was remarkable.
Anisimova could not handle the moment, and the match became hard to watch. In a quarterfinal in front of her own fans, the American is likely to present a much stiffer challenge to her illustrious opponent.
If Swiatek manages to overcome that considerable challenge, she will face either Naomi Osaka or Karolina Muchova. Either matchup would be fascinating. Swiatek and Osaka's 2024 French Open match, won by the four-time champion at Roland Garros after saving a match point, was incredible.
The current WTA world No. 3 had a memorable battle against Muchova in the 2023 French Open final, prevailing 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Muchova is the only player to take a set from Swiatek in the final of a Grand Slam.
Swiatek might appreciate not being given absurd questions in press conferences at this stage of a Grand Slam. Earlier in the tournament, a journalist asked the 2022 US Open champion if she had ever considered getting beads in her hair. Unsurprisingly, that drew a furious reaction from the Pole.
