Venus Williams hasn't played for quite some time, and she finally provided some update on her anticipated comeback.

Williams last competed during the Sunshine Double last year. She first lost to Nao Hibino at the Indian Wells Open, and then Venus was bested by Diana Shnaider at the Miami Open. Despite losing both matches, the American fought bravely, even winning a set against Hibino.

In 2025, the 44-year-old legend has yet to compete in a professional tournament. It seemed that Williams would make a return at the Indian Wells Open when the tournament organizers announced that she would receive a wild card.

However, only a few days after the announcement, Venus said that she had no intentions to play in Indian Wells, denying the offered chance to play at the WTA 1000 event.

After that, the seven-time Grand Slam champion appeared on the practice courts at the Miami Open, but she didn't compete at the event. Williams just wanted to practice and measure herself against some of the best.

The day that Venus appeared at the Miami Open was March 19th, and she shared some "behind the scenes" footage from that day on her YouTube channel. Williams spent some time with her good friend Ons Jabeur, with whom she practiced.

The 44-year-old American also met some of the other players, such as Reilly Opelka, and she clearly enjoyed her time in Miami. In her video, Venus looked back on her previous success a the event.

"Today we're at the Miami Open for a behind-the-scenes look. So come with me as we train with Ons Jabeur and see some familiar faces around the stadium."
"The Miami Open, I have so many good memories. It was my first big win, my first big titles. Back in 1999, I was 19 years old, such good times. So, Serena and I played amazing tennis here."

Talking in the video, Venus Williams admitted that she often gets asked about her comeback. However, she admitted that she's at a stage when she has no idea when she could make an appearance on the WTA Tour.

The former WTA World No. 1 player explained that she just enjoys practicing and playing tennis, which is why she stays in shape and plays often. But when it comes to her comeback, she has no idea when that might happen.

"It's actually pretty motivating to come back and see the competition. I love this part of my life. People look at me like, 'Are you playing?' and I'm like 'No, I'm not.' You know, it's one thing to look fit, and it's another thing to be really tennis-fit."
"So, I really don't have a plan for the first time in my life. Like, as an athlete, there's a whole plan. And now, I just love playing, I'm going to play every day, and if I feel ready to play, then I will play."

It's clear that at this stage, even Venus Williams doesn't know if and when she could return to the tennis courts. A real possibility remains one last goodbye at the US Open.
