It seems that Stefanos Tsitsipas finally found a permanent coach. The Greek player should start working with Goran Ivanisevic after this year's Roland Garros.
After many years together, Tsitsipas stopped working with his father Apostolos as a coach in August last year. Since then, the Greek player has worked with Dimitris Chatzinikolaou, who is the Greek Davis Cup team captain.
Now, it seems that the three-time Monte-Carlo Masters champion plans to add to his team, as he should start working with Novak Djokovic's ex-coach Goran Ivanisevic after this year's French Open.
Ivanisevic last worked with Elena Rybakina, but that wasn't a very successful partnership. As he hinted during multiple interviews, their partnership ended because of the situation in Rybakina's team surrounding her controversial coach Stefano Vukov.
But despite a disappointing end to his partnership with Rybakina, it seems that the 53-year-old Croatian found another player that he would want to work with, as he's set to start a partnership with Tsitsipas.
The Greek publication Gazzetta reports that Tsitsipas and Ivanisevic should start working together after the clay-court part of the season, which means after the Roland Garros.
Starting during the grass-court part of the season would be a perfect time for Tsitsipas to start working with Ivanisevic, as the Croatian won the 2001 Wimbledon Championships and his insights would certainly be beneficial for the former ATP World No. 3 player.
At the moment, Tsitsipas competes in Monte Carlo with his current team. In the third round, he defeated Nuno Borges 6-1, 6-1, and it was clear that the Greek player is happy about his level at the moment.
"Most games were really close. I felt most of the games were ending at the 40/30 score, there was a lot of action. I don't think the score resembles the match. There was a lot more than the score shows."
"We both tried to push each other to the limit. He was maybe unable to take advantage of certain opportunities and I handled them much better than I expected."
Up next, Tsitsipas will take on Lorenzo Musetti, who bested his compatriot Matteo Berrettini to reach the quarter-final stage. The Greek player is looking forward to that matchup.
"I know I have scored good wins here and played some good tennis. I want to come back onto this court and do more and accept the new challenges. I am just trying to take it match by match. I want to create way more memories on this court and I want to play better tomorrow against Lorenzo, who is a great clay-court player."
