Stefanos Tsitsipas has clarified why he drove an Aston Martin at over 275km/h (170 mph) after it concerned the ATP star's fans on social media.

Tsitsipas enjoyed a 2024 season that most players would be delighted with. In April, he secured a third Monte Carlo Masters title after defeating the two-time French Open runner-up Casper Ruud in the final.

The Greek No. 1 also finished the season at No. 11, narrowly missing out on a six consecutive Top 10 finish. Despite still being just 26, Tsitsipas has been among the most consistent players in tennis in recent years.

Tsitsipas also missed out on the ATP Finals for the first time since 2018. He won the season-ending tournament in 2019 and admitted that not making it to the event in Turin was a humbling experience.

A notable and stressful moment Tsitsipas dealt with this year was parting from his father, Apostolos, after he had been Stefanos' coach for many years. The 26-year-old split from him after being publicly critical of Apostolos.

One of Stefanos' former physiotherapists claimed that Apostolos had a harmful effect on his son, mentioning that players did not want to practice with the 2021 French Open runner-up because of how controlling his father was.

The physiotherapist also said Stefanos wanted to split with Apostolos years ago, but his mother always made him feel guilty. Those remarks led to the Tsitsipas family taking legal action against the physiotherapist.

A recent social media post from Stefanos that discussed the impact of "narcissistic parents" might indicate that relations with his father have been frosty since splitting with him. However, he did not explicitly state the post related to his parents.

Stefanos also caused outrage among some with a post about paying bills, which many viewed as out-of-touch since the Greek, who has earned over $30 million in prize money, is wealthier than more than 99% of tennis fans.

Footage recently emerged of Tsitsipas driving at over 275km/h in an Aston Martin. That dangerous-looking act and his recent social media posts made many fans worldwide concerned for him.

Tsitsipas clarified in a recent social media post that he drove at that speed on a closed, straight road with a professional race track, meaning his driving put nobody else in danger.

"The video featuring the Aston Martin at speeds exceeding 250km/h was recorded on a closed, straight road within a professional racing track, ensuring all safety measures were in place."

Thankfully, Tsitsipas was not driving in an area where he may have harmed people. Traveling at such speed in an Aston Martin must have been a riveting experience, although it would be scary to some.

Tsitsipas will hope to hit the ground running next season. He usually plays his best tennis in the opening half of the season. An example of that was when Tsitsipas reached the 2023 Australian Open final.

However, Tsitsipas will need to contend with Jannik Sinner, the defending champion, and Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, who both hired new coaches, at the 2025 Australian Open.
