Jannik Sinner's 2024 ATP prize money reached almost $20 million after bonuses were added, but Carlos Alcaraz failed to finish second on the list.
Sinner achieved many great results in 2024, including winning the Australian Open and US Open. The 23-year-old also secured a maiden ATP Finals title, helped Italy obtain back-to-back Davis Cup titles, and won three Masters 1000 titles.
Those achievements meant Sinner finished the season at No. 1 in the rankings and was handsomely rewarded financially. The $4,881,100 he earned for triumphing at the ATP Finals was the largest paycheck ever awarded to a player at an ATP tournament.
However, that was not Sinner's most lucrative payday in 2024. He won $6 million, the most significant paycheck awarded at any tennis event, for winning the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia.
Sinner insisted after the Six Kings Slam that he does not play for money and only appeared at the exhibition to compete against high-quality competition since the other players were Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Holger Rune.
The world No. 1's massive sum from the Six Kings Slam is not included in his ATP prize money. His initial earnings were estimated at close to $17 million, but that did not include bonuses given to players in ATP 500 and Masters 1000 events and the ATP Finals.
Sinner was No. 1 on the bonuses list with $2,789,554, bringing his total ATP prize money for the 2024 season to $19,735,703. The US Open champion's dominance in 2024 is evident from his topping the total prize money and bonuses lists.
Alcaraz is at No. 3 on the prize money list with $10,358,429. Many might have expected the 21-year-old to be at No. 2 because he won the French Open and Wimbledon during the 2024 season.
Despite those successes and winning the Indian Wells Open, Alcaraz was more inconsistent throughout the season than Sinner. The Spaniard was down at No. 11 on the bonuses list with $508,091.
Despite not winning a Grand Slam, Alexander Zverev finished second on the prize money list with $11,501,623. The $2,506,520 he received in bonuses, putting him at No. 2 behind Sinner, was a crucial reason he finished above Alcaraz on the list.
The prize money lists are notable for how low Novak Djokovic is. He is at No. 8 for the total amount, earning $4,421,915 after failing to win a Grand Slam during a season for the first time since 2017.
Djokovic was not inside the Top 30 for bonuses paid to players. However, the ten-time Australian Open winner has won the most prize money in tennis history and probably does not care much about money at this stage of his career.
Taylor Fritz, with $8,250,064, and Medvedev, with $6,519,660, complete the Top 5 for the total prize money earned in 2024. Andrey Rublev, Fritz, and Medvedev are the other three players in the Top 5 for bonuses earned.
Casper Ruud, Rublev, Alex de Minaur, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are in the Top 10 for total prize money, while Tsitsipas, Ruud, Rune, Arthur Fils, and Grigor Dimitrov are the other players in the Top 10 for bonuses.
