Legendary duo
Serena Williams and
Venus Williams have revealed the exciting news that they will host a new podcast together on X.
Serena, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion and regarded by many as the greatest
WTA player ever, retired from professional tennis in September 2022.
She has admitted to missing the sport like crazy.
Despite turning 45 later this month and being absent from the WTA Tour since March 2024, Venus has not officially retired. She still plans to pick and choose her tournaments since most events would offer the seven-time major singles champion wild cards.
Although they shared a fierce on-court rivalry and played against each other in several Grand Slam finals, the sisters managed to remain on good terms and not allow their quest for success to create an irreparable split.
That was proven by the news that Serena and Venus will launch a new podcast on X(formerly Twitter) in August. The pair made a brief statement outlining their excitement about collaborating on the project.
"We’re so excited to be launching our new podcast, a place where we will share our personal stories, have authentic conversations, spotlight important topics, and laugh a lot."
“This platform gives us the chance to engage directly with our fans who have supported us throughout our careers, and we’re excited to connect with audiences, old and new, in a way we’ve never done before.”
They found a balance between giving fans an insight into what can be expected from the podcast without revealing all the details. Legendary figures like Serena and Venus have a chance to take the podcast in multiple directions.
The announcement will be particularly welcome to Serena's passionate fans, who have missed her presence on the WTA Tour. Although she works hard in other areas, the seven-time Wimbledon singles champion has not been as visible.
A notable exception to Serena not being as visible was her appearance in Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show in February. She generated attention worldwide after crip walking during Lamar's performance.
It will be interesting to observe the stories and insights the pair shares in the podcast. When speaking about Venus a few months ago, Serena admitted she naturally had a winning mentality that her sister did not.
Those comments caused a bit of a stir, but the sisters have always been honest in interviews throughout their careers. They are big personalities who are not afraid to speak unfiltered, which bodes well for their podcast.
Serena has also talked about how many more Grand Slams she feels each of them would have won if the other sister had not been playing. The pair's rivalry was among the greatest in tennis history, bringing massive attention to women's tennis.
Many view Coco Gauff as the successor to the Williams sisters since she is an American woman of color who did not come from a wealthy background. The 21-year-old has
repeatedly cited Venus and Serena as inspirations.
Gauff became the first American woman or man to win at Roland Garros since Serena in 2025. She
staged a superb comeback against Aryna Sabalenka to secure the title in Paris for the first time.
