It appears that
Sebastian Korda has again been struck by injury trouble, as he withdrew from the 2025
Queen's Club Championships and the 2025
Libema Open.
Korda featured at Roland Garros, reaching the third round. He beat Luciano Darderi and Jenson Brooksby before being comprehensively defeated by his compatriot Frances Tiafoe in straight sets.
There did not appear to be any physical issues with Korda during that defeat. He moved around the court as usual, but got outplayed by Tiafoe in front of the fans on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
Korda provided no official reason for withdrawing from this week's Libema Open in 's-Hertogenbosch and next week's Queen's Club Championships. He was set to be among the seeded players at the Dutch tournament.
Missing the Libema Open will be particularly disappointing for the American because he was the runner-up to Alex de Minaur at last year's iteration. So far, it is the only grass-court final of Korda's career.
How much Korda believes in himself on grass will also make his absence for at least the next two weeks frustrating. In 2023, the 24-year-old said he felt like one of the favorites for that year's Wimbledon.
Korda probably regretted making those comments after crashing out of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships in the opening round to Jiri Vesely in four sets. It was one of the worst performances at that year's iteration of the legendary tournament.
He suffered the same fate at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. However, his exit to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was more understandable since the Frenchman's massive serve is a nightmare to face on grass.
Hopefully, Korda has not sustained another elbow injury.
He underwent surgery for that problem in October after picking up the issue during his second-round match at the US Open against Tomas Machac.
Last year's Citi Open champion did not return until the start of this season. After being out for so long, he started spectacularly by reaching the 2025 Adelaide International final, finishing as the runner-up to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Korda's results since have been mixed. That final in Adelaide might have created unrealistic expectations of him after he had been out for so long. Regaining full momentum after a severe injury is not easy.
Aleksandar Kovacevic replaced Korda at the Libema Open. Unfortunately for the 26-year-old, he could not seize the opportunity and lost in straight sets to Jordan Thompson on the opening day of the tournament.
Nick Kyrgios confirmed a few days ago that he will miss the entire grass-court swing due to a setback in his recovery from injury. The Australian returned at the start of this season after a lengthy period out with knee and wrist injuries.
He only played one tournament in 2023 and 2024 and had to undergo a wrist reconstruction to play again. Although competing again at all after so long out is impressive, the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up has been a shadow of his former self.
Some think Kyrgios should retire instead of suffering trying to get back onto the court, but players know what is best for themselves.
