Novak Djokovic To Team Up With Nick Kyrgios In Doubles Before Australian Open

| by Erik Virostko

Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios will stand on the same side of the tennis court for the first time as they will join forces before the 2025 Australian Open.

Only a few years ago, the relationship between these two was far from ideal. However, that changed during the 2022 Australian Open when Djokovic was deported from Australia.

Then, Kyrgios was one of the very few of the Serbian's ATP colleagues who took his side, and Djokovic didn't take it lightly. Since then, their relationship has blossomed.

They met in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships final and shared many nice moments on the tennis courts and also away from them. In 2023, they even played an exhibition match ahead of the Australian Open.

At the time, it seemed that the two might even join forces on the doubles court, but that didn't happen. The reason was Kyrgios' injury struggles, as he played only one match in 2023.

At the end of the 2022 season, Kyrgios posted a picture with Djokovic on his Instagram account, saying that the two will become a "new doubles pair."

"New doubles pair this year…. Loading……🤭👀 @djokernole you ready??!!"

Since he posted the picture, however, they didn't get a chance to make that a reality, but that will seemingly change at the start of the 2025 season.

Both signed up for the 2025 Brisbane International, with Djokovic leading the entry list. Kyrgios, on the other hand, had to use his protected ranking to enter the tournament, as he is not ranked at the moment.

The 2025 Brisbane International will be held in the first week of the new season, starting on December 30th, with the final of this ATP 250 tournament played on January 5th.

During this period, fans will also get a chance to see Kyrgios and Djokovic on the doubles court together, as the Australian player revealed on his Instagram player.

He shared the two-year-old picture, which mentioned playing doubles with Djokovic, and confirmed that the two would join forces in Brisbane this year.

"Doubles at Brisbane. See y'all there."

This announcement certainly delighted the Brisbane International organizers, as this pairing will certainly sell thousands of tickets for their doubles matches.

Djokovic played one doubles match this year when he teamed up with Miomir Kecmanovic at the Davis Cup, beating the Greek pairing of Petros Tsitsipas and Aristotelis Thanos. In 2023, Djokovic played six matches and won only two.

Kyrgios, on the other hand, is the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion, and he should play with his good friend Thanasi Kokkinakis also this year.

Kokkinakis and Djokovic are not the only two players that Kyrgios should play doubles with in 2025, as Jack Sock hinted at a tennis comeback alongside Kyrgios at the Miami Open.

It seems that after being away from the sport for almost two years, Kyrgios is excited to return to the tennis courts, with many plans in doubles only confirming this.
